Concrete Slabs with Grass Strips: Why They Work So Well Here
A wide unbroken driveway is a lot of grey, and it is also a lot of impermeable surface sending water somewhere. Splitting it into panels with strips of artificial grass between them addresses both at once, which is why it has become one of the most requested things we do.
Visually it does what any large surface benefits from: it introduces a rhythm and a second colour, so the eye reads a set of panels rather than one slab. On a long driveway that is the difference between a house that looks like it has a forecourt and one that looks like it has a car park.
Practically, each strip is a break in the surface. Water that would otherwise sheet across the whole slab toward the street or the garage has somewhere to go along the way, provided the strips are built on a properly draining base rather than dropped onto compacted clay. That base is the part that gets skipped by people copying the look, and it is why some of these installations end up holding water in the joints instead of shedding it.
Artificial grass rather than real grass matters here too. Real turf in a 200mm strip between two heat-absorbing slabs, driven over regularly, does not survive. Good artificial turf on a draining base stays green, stays flat, and needs nothing from you.
We install the slabs and the turf as one job, which matters — the levels and the drainage have to be worked out together, not bolted on afterwards. Call (786) 346-5579 to talk it through.
